Dr. Ponder's vision of diabetes care in the 21st century is embodied in Diabetes Housecall. While based on a solid doctor-patient-family relationship, Dr. Ponder realizes that diabetes care is essentially a series of informed choices that are best achieved by a well trained and confident patient and family.
"Diabetes House Call marries: the GlucoMON technology, at home A1c testing and webcam technology which allows me to see patients in their homes for extended visits. My expectation for the patient is that they have a primary care provider to manage common problems as they arise. Anything diabetes related will be my domain. We schedule follow ups on line and for 30 minutes or 45 minutes. These visits are "hosted" by Diabetech. I must already have an established doctor patient relationship, which includes an initial face to face visit and examination. Plus, any annual lab work is obtained at these yearly visits. However, all intervening visits are on line. So far, I have patients throughout Texas from Houston, Lubbock, Odessa, San Angelo, Del Rio and Mount Pleasant. The visits to Corpus Christi are traditional visits and billed with the patients insurance plus any co-pay that may apply. The follow ups are being done for the first year with an invoice to patients which you can then submit to your insurer. I'm being told that companies like Blue Cross are seriously considering paying for this service however your mileage may vary
